The Queensland Government takes seriously its responsibility to protect and preserve our environment to assist in achieving a sustainable future for Queenslanders. The State of the Environment Queensland 2007 report highlights where the greatest of challenges to sustainability lie, and where further policy development may be most needed and best directed. It also provides a means by which past actions can be assessed and future initiatives judged.

The Queensland Government's Response document outlines the actions taken by the Government in addressing environmental issues highlighted in the report. Many of these initiatives target specific environmental challenges while others address a broader policy agenda but also produce good environmental outcomes. The key initiatives that the Queensland Government has put in place are presented under the banners of each of the nine major themes they address.
