Binary Remediation Update - 1 October 2007

Monday 1 October to Friday 5 October 2007
To keep local residents, businesses, media and other interested parties fully informed of the remediation of the Narangba Industrial Estate, the department is publishing a weekly update.
The current soil remediation activities are part of the department's ongoing cleanup and remediation works on State and local government-owned land adjacent to the Binary factory site.
A summary of remediation works and site conditions between Monday 1 October 2007 and Friday 5 October 2007 are provided below:
- No rainfall was received on the remediation site this week;
- Remediation of Pond 1 continued this week, 40 percent of Pond 1 was excavated;
- Soil samples were taken from Pond 1 for analysis by Queensland Health. These samples will identify any more hot spots in Pond 1 requiring excavation and remediation;
- Discharges of treated water from the department's Treatment Dam to the Caboolture Shire Council sewer remain on hold pending analysis results of water samples from the dam.
The department has been supervising all works conducted on the site.
