Binary Remediation Update - 17 September 2007
Weekly update
Monday 17 September 2007 to Friday 21 September 2007
To keep local residents, businesses, media and other interested parties fully informed of the remediation of the Narangba Industrial Estate, the department is publishing a weekly update.
The current soil remediation activities are part of the department's ongoing cleanup and remediation works on State and local government-owned land adjacent to the Binary factory site.
A summary of progress and site conditions between Monday 17 September 2007 and Friday 21 September 2007 is provided below:
- No rainfall was received on the remediation site this week.
- Due to wet conditions from rains earlier this month, remediation works have been temporarily stood down until the site is dry enough for the Contractor to recommence work. Recommencement is proposed to start Tuesday 25 September 2007, weather permitting.
- 17,000 litres of water from Pond 1 was transferred to the EPA's treatment dam.
- Pond 1 has been emptied and is now being filled by recharging ground water. This ground water will be continually removed to enable the pond to remain dry.
- Discharges from the department's treatment dam to the Caboolture Shire Council sewer have temporarily ceased pending the analysis results of water samples taken from the dam.
- Grass seed planted on the remediation site has been regularly watered and is showing good signs of growth.
The department has been supervising all works conducted on the site.
Anyone with concerns about odour, soil or water contamination from the Narangba Industrial Estate is advised to contact the department hotline on 1300 130 372.
