Purpose of compliance alerts
The department’s compliance program is based around a range of activities intended to increase levels of compliance with legislative requirements. This is preferable to simply identifying and responding to non-compliance. However in some circumstances, taking enforcement action, such as prosecution, is in the public interest.
DERM is committed to an ongoing analysis of its enforcement activity, so that common areas of non-compliance can be identified. The purpose of these compliance alerts is to highlight common areas of non-compliance, and advise relevant sectors of those issues and the steps they can take to improve performance. In turn this will help to avoid enforcement action.
