Lost buoys
From time to time, wave measuring buoys come adrift from their moorings and stop transmitting wave information.
- These buoys are stainless steel, either 0.7m or 0.9m in diameter, painted yellow.
- They have a grouped flashing yellow light at night.
Your help is requested to assist us in quickly recovering lost buoys so that we can continue to provide our service to you.
What can you do to help?
- DO NOT - try to recover a wave measuring buoy.
- DO - contact the Principal Technical Officer (Coastal Monitoring) on (07) 3868 9522 (or the local Harbour Master) and advise the time when the buoy was sighted and its approximate location.
If safe to do so, note the serial number of the buoy (painted in black numbers on the side of the hull) and its condition.
