Queensland’s coal seam gas reserves are providing the basis for the State’s developing liquefied natural gas (LNG) export industry.

LNG is coal seam gas that, after being extracted from the ground, has been cooled to a liquid so it can be transported to overseas markets.

Both gases are used to fuel natural gas appliances, such as heaters and stoves, and generate electricity.

A cleaner energy source, coal seam gas has powered Queensland homes for years.

Exploration in the state started in the 1970s, and today coal seam gas production is concentrated around south west and central Queensland.
