Community Engagement

Community engagement is a critically important aspect of the Clean and Healthy Air for Gladstone Project.

A Community Reference Group and Industry Reference Group have been established to ensure that there are effective ways for input and communication about the planning and progress of the project. A series of Public Forums have also been scheduled to allow the wider community to be involved with and informed about the project.

Community Health Survey

Queensland Health would like to thank Gladstone area residents for their participation in the community health survey conducted recently by the Office of the Government Statistician. The survey was completed in early October and the response was excellent.

Nearly 2000 adults participated in the telephone survey and health information was also obtained on more than 700 children. Collation and analysis of the information gathered has now commenced. Queensland Health will hold public information sessions on 27 November 2008 to present preliminary findings from the analysis of health information relating to hospital admissions, deaths, cancer and perinatal (birth) outcomes and the community health survey.

Final results will be presented to the community in February 2009. The information gathered, focusing on health effects that may be associated with or aggravated by air pollution, will provide valuable information on the health of the Gladstone area community.

Residents with concerns about the survey can contact Queensland Health on free-call 1800 207161.

For more information about the community health survey visit the Questions and Answers page or for details on Community Health Assessment Public Information Sessions visit project updates.
