The Pimlico monitoring station is located within the grounds of the Barrier Reef Institute of TAFE Pimlico Campus, surrounded by residential suburbs. It was established in June 2004 to measure general population exposure to air pollutants from the range of emission sources in the Townsville area. Ozone, nitrogen oxides and PM10 are measured at this site. Wind speed and direction are also recorded.

South Townsville
The South Townsville station is located in the grounds of a kindergarten in a residential area near to the city's port operations. The department began monitoring here in 1994, measuring PM10 concentrations using a high-volume air sampler.

The Townsville Port monitoring station is located at a terminal of the Townsville Port Authority in Townsville Harbour. It was established in partnership with the Townsville Port Authority in 1994 to monitor the impact of port activities on nearby residential areas.

PM10 is measured at this site using TEOM instrumentation. Wind speed and direction are also recorded. The Townsville Port Authority funds and operates this station under the guidance of the department.

Garbutt
The Garbutt station is located in an industrial area of Townsville. It began monitoring PM10 levels in 1994 using a high-volume air sampler.

Stuart
The Stuart monitoring station is located on private property adjacent to an industrial area comprising several metal processing plants. Sun Metals Corporation funds and operates the station under the guidance of the department. Sulfur dioxide and wind speed and direction are monitored at this site.

Meteorological data Sulfur dioxide

Mount Isa
The Mount Isa Mines complex, located on the western side of Mount Isa, produces significant air emissions. The company has a network of air quality monitoring stations throughout Mount Isa which is used to manage air quality as part of its environmental licence. The department also operates an air quality monitoring station at Menzies in Mount Isa.

Menzies
The Menzies site is located in an industrial area of Mount Isa. It was established in 1979 and currently measures ambient sulfur dioxide concentrations and wind data.
