Environment and Resource Management

Air pollution

Air is a mixture of gases and small solid and liquid particles from natural sources and as a result of human activities. The department does extensive work on monitoring air pollutants such as lead, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, ozone, sulfur dioxide and organic pollutants.

Caring for our air

Air pollution affects us all, so caring for our air by identifying pollution sources and doing our best to minimise harmful outputs to the atmosphere is the responsibility of government, industry, and individuals.

Wood heaters

Wood heaters can be less efficient than other heating systems. If they are operating badly, they can become an environmental and health hazard, particularly in populated urban areas. So it's important to take care when buying, installing and using a wood heater.
