Air
What would we do without clean air? Well, you can breathe easy knowing that the department is taking action to look after our air quality.
You can help to care for our air by:
- taking public transport or forming a car pool,
- driving smoothly and observing traffic controls and speed limits, and
- keeping your car's engine well maintained and tuned.
Air quality monitoring is a key role of the Agency. Monthly and annual air quality reports are available from the Agency. South-east Queensland air pollution forecasts for the next 24-hours are shown on some nightly weather bulletins. Air quality in south-east Queensland is currently of good quality, but if we continue to grow and pollute at the current rate, air pollution will increase.
The department administers the Environmental Protection Act 1994 and the Environmental Protection (Air) Policy 1997. Legislation under the Act, the Air Policy helps protect our current and future air quality to safeguard our health and well-being.
