ecoBiz Partner Biography
Nursery Traders' Tim Bunker receiving their ecoBiz Partner certificate from Minister Darling
Nursery Traders, a plant nursery based in Capalaba, have implemented various energy and water saving technology since 1992. They currently possess a 750kL water storage and recycling system, which significantly reduces their reliance on council sources, to the point where in 3 months of 2010 no water was drawn from council sources at all. Recently they installed a sophisticated weather monitoring system, which adjusts the irrigation system to suit the needs of each individual plant, to minimise water use. To reduce Greenhouse gas emissions, they installed a solar power system capable of generating 208 kwhr per day.
Savings:
- Energy 123% (5 Queensland homes or 297,561 MJ)*
- Greenhouse Gas 123% (22 Cars or 87.48 t CO2-e)*
- Potable water reduction 95% (9 Olympic swimming pools or 23,542 kL) compared to their year 2000 levels
- Waste disposal reduction 24% (170 wheelie bins or 40 m3)
- Efficiency savings $150,582
* Feeding electricity into the grid through solar power.
Savings as at January 2011
