ecoBiz Partner Biography
Orion Springfield's Daryl Gabagas receiving their ecoBiz Partner certificate from former Minister Jones
Orion Springfield Town Centre, located at Springfield Lakes near Ipswich, hosts more than 100 stores and is one of Australia’s most environmentally friendly retail developments. Mirvac invested almost $1.7 million dollars into sustainable technologies for the centre. As a result it is estimated that the centre uses 60% less potable water, and 40% less energy than similar shopping centres. Major initiatives included a fully integrated water system that incorporates rainwater collection and recycling, for use in cooling towers, toilets, water features and landscaping. Their lift system is also state of the art, with the motors fitted on the cars themselves. This eliminates the need for an air conditioned motor room, and the motors themselves are considerably smaller and more energy efficient than in other models. An energy efficient air conditioning system also reduced electricity use. Read the Orion Springfield case study to find out more.
