Special activities
General information
Where a particular visitor activity in a protected area or State forest may:
- have an unusual or significant impact on cultural or natural resources;
- require special training or supervision before a person can safely engage in the activity; or
- involve risk to the public;
it may be designated as a special activity for a specified area by regulatory notice, or regulation.
Guidelines and policies
Applications are assessed against the following criteria to determine whether likely impacts will be within acceptable limits:
- natural and cultural resources and values;
- other QPWS managed area uses;
- management interests; and
- safety and equity.
Operational policy: Permits or written approval for special activities
QPWS can only issue a special activities permit for a protected area where the activities will be consistent with the management principles for the protected area and any management plan for the area.
Pre-lodgement service
Persons planning a special activity on a QPWS-managed area should contact their local QPWS office to discuss their proposal.
Permits and approvals
Where an activity is designated as a special activity in a specified area, a permit (for a protected area) or a written approval (for a State forest) is required to undertake the activity in the area.
A special activities permit or approval for a protected area or State forest may be issued for a maximum of one year.
