Major works in marine park zone

General information

Before you do any activity in a marine park, you should check the zoning plan for that area to see if the activity is allowed, and whether it requires a marine park permit. If you are in any doubt about whether a permit is required, contact the QPWS for advice. To help you apply for a permit, you'll receive an information pack containing background material and an application form.

Guidelines and policies

Where the state marine park occurs in the Great Barrier Reef Region (i.e. Great Barrier Reef Coast Marine Park), a joint permit may be issued by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority and the QPWS.

Pre-design conference service

The department offers a 'pre-design conference' service for projects which may include issues requiring a high level of assessment. This service includes meeting with a departmental project manager to discuss all the information requirements to be provided with your application.

For more details, read the Pre-design conference fact sheet.

This service can be initiated by contacting the Ecoaccess Customer Service Unit on 1300 368 326 or by email at palm@derm.qld.gov.au or completing a Pre-design conference application form. If a pre-design conference is required to discuss your application in more detail, a departmental officer will contact you directly.

Forms and fees

Information about fees and charges that may be required will be provided with your application kit.
