Permit to enter a National park (scientific)
General information
The Nature Conservation Act 1992 establishes 12 different classes of protected areas in Queensland. National parks (scientific) are given the highest level of protection of any class under the Act. They are generally set aside for the protection of species or habitats that are of exceptional scientific value.
Public access is not generally allowed in national parks (scientific). People must obtain a special permit to enter or remain in a national park (scientific).

If you are considering applying for a permit to enter a national park (scientific), seek a meeting with the local QPWS District Manager about the proposal before making formal application.
Permits and approvals
The impacts of proposed activities on the natural and cultural values of a national park (scientific) and on existing or planned QPWS management programs will be key considerations in assessing an application to enter or remain in a national park (scientific).
A permit to enter or remain in a national park (scientific) can be granted for a period of up to one year.

In making an application, applicants are responsible for:
- lodging a completed application form (with attachments).
Required attachments to applications include:
- the names of all national parks (scientific) and the sites within each of those parks where the applicant wishes to conduct activities;
- a detailed outline of all intended activities within each park and site. Additional pages may need to be attached to the application to provide this information.
