Excluded work
The Sustainable Planning Act 2009 (SPA) identifies that certain works carried out completely or partly within a coastal management district are excluded from being assessable. If the work is excluded work, no development approval is required under the Integrated Development Assessment System (IDAS).
The purpose of excluded work is to remove activities that would have no significant impact on coastal management from requiring assessment.
Excluded work includes maintenance work on existing lawful works or minor work that has insignificant impact on coastal management and is reversible or expendable. Excluded work also includes work for which an exemption certificate under the Coastal Protection and Management Act 1995 has been issued.
For more information refer to the Guideline Excluded works.
Note: Public comment is currently being invited on a proposal to change the coastal management districts declared under the Coastal Act. View the proposed coastal management district maps and further information about the proposal. Submissions about the proposal must be received before 5pm on Friday 23 December 2011
