Clean and Healthy Air for Gladstone project
The Clean and Healthy Air for Gladstone project is a Queensland Government initiative, established to gain a better understanding of air pollution in the Gladstone area, and to identify any potentially associated risks to public health.
Mt Cotton Air Quality Monitoring Program
Respirable crystalline silica in dust can cause scarring of the lung tissue in occupationally exposed workers. After conducting the Mt Cotton Air Quality Monitoring Program, a month-long survey of dust from local quarries—the department is satisfied that emissions are well within national standards.
Mt Isa air quality
Sources of air pollution from Xstrata's Mount Isa Mines include the lead and copper smelter stacks, and fugitive emissions from other mining and smelting operations. To protect Mt Isa’s air quality, legislation passed in 2008 subjected Xstrata’s emissions to the requirements of the Environmental Protection Act 1994.
Mt Isa Mines (MIM) Panel Assessment Study
Mt Isa Mines’ copper and lead smelting operations produce sulfur dioxide emissions that may affect local residents and the plants and animals of surrounding areas. The Queensland Government commissioned the MIM Panel Assessment Study to investigate and report on these emissions.
Air quality in South East Queensland
The department’s network of air quality monitoring stations in South East Queensland measure levels of pollutants in the air. The information is used for assessing long-term trends in air quality in the region, and the effectiveness of strategies to manage it.
Boyne Smelters Limited—Environmental Investigation Report
Following a series of air pollution incidents at Boyne Smelters and a comparative assessment of site emissions, the department issued a notice requiring Boyne Smelters Limitied to undertake a comprehensive emission survey and risk assessment. View the official notices and the report prepared by the company, meeting the department's requirements.
Air quality reports
Air quality reports including annual summaries and trend reports of air quality monitoring in Queensland; air quality investigations; the Air quality sampling manual; the SEQ air emissions inventory, and others.
Environmental regulation of the Ace Waste site
The Ace Waste (PDF, 72K)* site at Gooderham Road, Willawong is regulated by the department under the Environmental Protection Act 1994.
The site operates under a development approval in conjunction with other conditions as stipulated under Brisbane City Council’s planning approval.
Suntown Landfill—Arundel Air Quality Monitoring Program
The Suntown Landfill at Captain Cook Drive, Arundel is regulated by the department under the Environmental Protection Act 1994.
The department initiated air monitoring from February to April 2010 in response to community concerns about the nature of dust emissions from the landfill. View the Suntown Landfill Particle Monitoring Investigation February to April (PDF, 517K)* report.
A second round of monitoring was conducted between October and December 2010 due to the incidence of heavy rainfall events during February and March. These events were likely to have reduced dust emissions from the landfill site during the initial investigation period.
