School-based traineeships
If you are currently in Year 10 or 11 and wondering about possible careers in government, have a look at DERM's school-based traineeships.
A traineeship, which can take up to two years, gives you the opportunity to combine vocational training, paid employment and school study to gain both your senior certificate and a vocational qualification. To be eligible, you must have your parent or guardian's permission.
As a trainee you:
- will be a temporary employee of DERM
- will be paid a percentage of the base salary.
- will generally work one day a week during the school term (to be negotiated with DERM)
- may be employed for more hours during school holidays and on pupil-free days.
Before you apply for a traineeship, you and your parents should read the following information sheets:
- School-based traineeships—student information (PDF, 167K)*
- Guidelines for parents (PDF, 118K)*
