The department’s strategic plans provide specific details on how we propose to conserve and manage our environment and natural resources for the benefit of all Queenslanders.
The Queensland Government’s vision for the future of Queensland, Toward Q2: Tomorrow’s Queensland is a key consideration in developing these plans.
Strategic plan 2009–13
The department's strategic plan sets the way forward with a clear direction and vision for the department and the basis for detailed planning activities over the next four years.

Previous strategic plans
On 26 March 2009, the former Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and former Department of Natural Resources and Water (NRW) were amalgamated to form the Department of Environment and Resource Management (DERM).
The following strategic plans were produced by these former agencies.
EPA strategic plan 2008–12 (PDF, 213K)*
This plan summarised the environmental management activities the agency would undertake during the specified period. It outlines the strategic direction, commitment to certain priorities and was the basis for detailed planning activities for four years.
EPA reseach and development plan 2007-12 (PDF, 794K)*
This plan outlined the framework for organising the agency’s research and development (R&D) to meet the Queensland Government's R&D priorities as detailed in the Smart State Strategy.
NRW strategic plan 2008–13 (PDF, 184K)*
This strategic plan outlined its focus and future direction, and the approach the department would take to meeting its responsibilities over five years.
NRW service delivery strategic plan 2007–12 (PDF, 286K)*
The service delivery plan outlined the department’s focus and direction in this area for five years.
NRW research and development plan 2007–12 (PDF, 483K)*
This plan provided direction for the department's research efforts for five years. It aligned to the science priorities set by the Office of the Queensland Chief Scientist.
